Pilgrim Lutheran church had its humble beginnings as a preaching point in the Marysville community. Pastors from Port Huron and Sarnia, Ontario would come and lead worship in the homes of church members. In 1947, the congregation formed and became a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The first church building was a small white clapboard building that was moved from St. Clair, Michigan up to the corner of what is now Michigan Ave. and Collard Ave. The church worshiped there until 1954 when they built the existing building you see on the home page.
In 1976, under the leadership of the Rev. Carl Sangers, Pilgrim left the LC-MS and became part of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC) until it merged to form the ELCA in 1988. The congregation has been very active in the Southeast Michigan Synod of the ELCA and the local Blue Water Cluster since its beginning.
Pilgrim has a baptized membership of
about 600 souls, and an average worship attendance of about 180 with its two services. We
are actively involved in several different ministries which are highlighted on our mission page. Our congregation is also an active Stephen Ministry congregation which has
trained care providers to help minister to people in a "one-on-one" caring
relationship. We firmly believe that we are "Christ caring for people through
people."
